Thursday Thoughts!

Whoa whoa whoa, when was the last time I did a Thursday Thoughts? Pretttty sure it was November, since I was just reading that post a minute ago trying to remember what I called my Thursday column...LOL! 

I've been itching to blog all day, but with a million chores and errands to do, along with having the puppy trainer come over, I've been one busy stay at home dog mom. Seriously. This entire week I've been getting up 4 times a night with this little angel....

^ that's Sunny, and we brought her home exactly 2 weeks ago today! Getting a puppy has been a dream of mine for as long as I could remember, and this summer all of the pieces finally fell into place for my family and we brought this little booger home to live with us! I post pictures of her pretty frequently on my Instagram, so if you can't get enough, ya best be followin' me, ya hear? @elleohelle86 is my username, come join the party!

Baby dog vs. mountain lion

My first story of the day will be a description of a moment I REALLY wish I'd had a camera for....I brought Sunny over to our neighbor's house this morning to meet their puppy (her first puppy playdate/friend!) who's a 5 month old, some sort of Shiloh Shepherd....basically she looks like a German Shepherd but is huuuuge for a puppy! She's referred to as a "lion," for goodness' sakes! And they say she'll DOUBLE in size when she's full grown! When she was Sunny's current age, she weighed 25 pounds...Sunny is around 6 ha ha ha. Watching them play and chase each other was just hilarious because of the size difference, and Sunny's cutie pie attempts to paw at this massive dog were too adorable to handle.

The mail lady came today, and she had so many packages for me that she actually had to hand-deliver them to me where I was hanging out on the porch! I got a subscription box sent to me to review, and a bunch of packages of things I've bought off of Depop! I've been getting some great deals on MAC products I've been looking for (which I will do swatch / review posts on shortly!), and will still have plenty of packages to come in the future :) P.S. My embarrassing gothic encounter...

So while I was opening up my packages and trying on some lipsticks later in the day for swatch blogposts, yet another mailman came up to the porch to deliver YET another box (this one wasn't for me though... aw :/ ), I happened to be wearing the Lorde Pure Heroine lipstick that I was trying on, but didn't have any other makeup on because, let's face it, it's summer and my day off, and ain't nobody got time fo dat. So he walks up to me and I'm just wearing this dark lipstick that probably looks black from a distance, and he probably thought I was writing emo poetry while out on the porch instead of taking close ups of lipstick boxes....totally casual / embarrassing... whoops. Awk.

OOPS I DID IT AGAIN

That's right, I placed my second order from erincondren.com in the past month or so. Her new On the Go Notebooks came out and I just couldn't resist (and somehow talked my dad into getting one for me as a gift? What? I'm magical sometimes), and I've been spending days designing my perfect collage for the covers! They're stupidly expensive but ridiculously blinged out and meticulously thought out notebooks, and being the freakishly organized person that I am, I just had to put my order in for one while I was in back to school shopping mode. They're so new that I couldn't find any online reviews for them (unlike when you look up the Life Planner and a million and one videos come up...most of which I watched while trying to decide whether I needed a planner or not...hehe #guilty). They look really similar to the planners feature-wise, and I'm super excited to use it for one of my major classes I'm taking this fall! I guess I'm technically cheating because it's almost 1am on Friday, but in my head it's still Thursday. Off to finish this episode of Friends (my latest obsession) and continue editing my July Favorites video, if my laptop wants to cooperate!

Brain Dump! I'm BAAAACK, so let's catch up!

Whoa whoa whoa now, it's been many a month since I blogged regularly- I was really in the swing of things in December when I was constantly posting about my experience being on a college campus on crutches / in a wheelchair, and my daily experiences in physical therapy (which, as it later turned out, is quite the place to meet people you later end up dating...) And although it's a blessing to be up and walking again, in a weird way, I kind of miss certain things about that chunk of my life! Then I figured that I was probably just missing blogging, so I thought I'd make a mini comeback.

With my super crazy summer work schedule, I make no promises about keeping up with posts, but I'll see what I can do (;

I thought I'd start with a weird combo of Tuesday Thoughts/ What I'm Loving Wednesday / the other types of posts I used to do on here, but let's just call it a brain dump because I have no idea what's going to come out...the only rule as far as I'm concerned is that it should relate to the topics I used to blog about and ones I hope to blog about in the coming weeks!

1) First off, can I just talk about how bummed I am that although I qualified for the Influenster Spring Voxbox, I never got it because I guess it got lost in the mail?! They keep sending me emails about it, and it looks like it was jam packed with the kind of beauty goodies I'd be overjoyed to receive, and each email just bums me out more and more. Not fair!!! There go a bunch of blog post and video ideas I was thinking of....

2) Random, but the Spotify playlist I'm listening to while posting this is called "Strangers" by RAC. It came out in 2014 and apparently it's an album, but it looks like a compilation of a bunch of different artists. It's very mellow and cheery and perfect for writing! Take note, you creative, hipster souls looking for coffee shop playlists to accompany your poetry!

3) Speaking of Spotify playlists I'm loving, as I've been doing the past few months, I made a June 2014 Favorite Songs playlist (although to be honest, I've been listening to my May Favorites more than the ones for this month! Ha!) that I need to share in my June 2014 Faves video for my beauty channel, if I ever get a chance to film it! I suppose I could do it today, but my room is still in shambles from putting in my air conditioner, and I've yet to gather all of my favorites together. These favorites videos are quite a process, as I'm sure my fellow beauty gurus empathize with!

4) I left my coffee downstairs. It was only half a cup because that's all that was left in the carafe :/ I guess my parents really hit it hard this morning! Like mother/father, like daughter, I guess....

5) Pssst, let me let you in on a little secret- I filmed a College Dorm Room Tour video the day before I moved out (sooooo over a month ago now) that I haven't had the chance to edit yet, so if you're subscribed to my beauty channel on Youtube (which I really hope you are because I kind of, you know, pour my heart and soul into - you can go straight to it by typing MissGlamBam.com into your browser) you can look forward to that in the coming weeks! I've never done any type of room tour on my channel before, although they're highly requested, so this is a first for us all :)

A Very Belated February Birchbox Unboxing!!! P.S. I'm baaaaack!

I have had so much free time on my hands lately, which is odd because it seems like everyone else on campus is absolutely swamped with end of semester projects! Anyways, I decided I needed to start blogging again like I used to- it was an everyday thing for me back in December and I MISS IT! Hopefully you guys missed me too & are ready for some more posts! I felt bad only posting my Youtube videos on my blog for such a long time, so let's mix it up with some bloggity blogs! 

I've had my February and March Birchbox boxes hanging around in a desk drawer for weeks now, for God knows what reason. I always thought I would film unboxings like I usually do (my previous ones will be embedded below), but now it's just too late so I just decided to tear them open. However, I decided to take pictures of the contents because I got a new, nicer camera since the last time I posted, so I thought I'd put it to use! 

(Sorry the pictures are so far away, my camera refused to take the pictures unless I was up nice and close...someone wanna explain that to me? It's a Canon and I only know how to do super basic things with it so far)

February 2014 Birchbox 

Anyways, this month, Birchbox apparently teamed up with U.S. weekly ... you know what? I'll just share the little excerpt on the info card they gave me. 

STEP AND REPEAT

First look- sorry about the glare!

At the first look, I noticed a cookie-like smell and that something oily was all over the tissue paper...naturally I assumed that there was a cookie or something wrapped in the tissue paper, but then I realized that it was just one of the items that had spilled :/ Really, Birchbox? Here's what it was: 

Beauty Protector- Protect & Oil

"Exclusive launch! This just-for-you hair oil defends against UV rays, heat, and breakage. Work 1-3 drops into damp hair, or to the ends of dry hair. Perfect for all hair types." 

I've never used a hair oil before, so I'm kind of confused about what the point is. Maybe it's like applying my Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum to my wet hair to make it shiny and less tangly? Either way, it got over absolutely everything in the box, which is totally annoying, but somehow didn't leak out of the actual box. The cap wasn't screwed all the way on >:(  At least now I know that it smells like cookies! Too bad a good portion of it is now missing.... it says the full size is $21.95

Coola- Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face (BB Cream) 

"Mineral-based tinted moisturizer with lasting sun protection and a shine-free finish. Smooth a thin layer onto clean skin. Full size, $36" 

I do love me some BB Creams...I have quite an obsession, actually! I've never heard of this brand before but I love trying out skincare, and the brand name sounds kind of like one of my professor's names, hehe. The fact that the info card calls it a tinted moisturizer and says nothing about it being a BB Cream, yet the tube saying 'BB Cream' confused me a bit though...

Ruby Wing- Color Changing Nail Polish in Kitten Heels

"This color-changing polish morphs from a hot fuchsia to a deep magenta in the sun. Full size, $10" 

I've been on a huge nail polish kick lately (that reminds me, I need to upload some of the swatches I've been doing in a future blogpost!), and although I'm not usually impressed with the polish color selection in subscription boxes, I'm very excited about this hot pink. Plus it changes color! I don't think I've ever had color changing polishes except super cheap ones when I was younger that only worked debatably well. This will be really fun to play with, and the bottle isn't so ridiculously small for once that I'd never be able to practically use it! 

smashbox cosmetics- Full Exposure Mascara

Even though I already own way too many of them, I always love trying new mascaras! I rarely get to try high end ones because I'm usually so obsessed with my cheaper drugstore ones, so this will be a treat!

smashbox cosmetics- Full Exposure Palette Sampler

"Beauty Extra- A range of versatile hues, complete with tips on creating the best look for your eye shape. Use one shadow for a casual look, or layer shades to take makeup from day to night. Full size, $49" 

How have I not heard of this palette yet!? Usually I know about all of the neutral shade palettes, since they're kind of my thing. Apparently this palette has 5 basic colors, just a matte and shimmer version of each one. I'm excited to try this, but the hair oil got all over the cover of it so I was forced to cut the top flap off. Eyeshadow samplers are usually a kind of weird thing to use and are slightly awkward, but I'm still excited that they threw some shadows in there for us!

February 2014 Birchbox 

Overall I'm pretty happy with this box- the mascara and nail polish and BB cream are right up my alley! The oil spill is a bummer and made everything way more messy than it needed to be (I had to wipe down everything in the box), but for the $10 a month you pay for this thing, I think this month was worth it. It's a good mix of new and old brands for me.
